Poetics Magazine
Poetics is a Bay Area-based, grassroots, traditionally printed arts, culture, and literary magazine started for and by Black, queer womxn. Poetics centers the artistic expression and imagination of Black, queer womxn and carves out a space for them to share their pleasure, vulnerability, joy, and desire.
Rooted in
Resistance…
Poetics follows the Black, queer, and feminist tradition of using publishing as a tool of cultural resistance. Historical Black, queer, feminist magazines such as Bay Area’s Aché and ONYX: Black Lesbian Newsletter created platforms for Black, queer women to share poetry, letters, personal perspectives, and much more. Poetics aims to continue the legacies of Black, queer, feminist magazines by bridging together the communities of Black, queer womxn through art, literature, and community building.
Note from the Founder & Editor-in-Chief…
“Poetics is the product of my passions; discovering and sharing the histories of Black, queer women through art and literature, and simultaneously dreaming up and working towards a world in which the creative expression of Black, queer women is recognized as both a form of resistance and a step towards our liberation…”
